Pentagram-Review

Review:

Pentagram-Day of Reckoning 1987

According to many people’s opinion, probably Pentagram’s best album. Originally released in 1987 by Napalm Records and reissued by Peaceville 6 years later. Still heavy, thick and eerie but with better production comparing to their first album “Pentagram” (a.k.a. Relentless).Every song is a classic, and we can all clearly notice their influences and their love for the mighty Black Sabbath. Hypnotized by Bobby Liebling’s magical voice, haunted by Victor Griffin’s archetypal heavy riffing, Joe Haaelvander’s magnificent drumming and Martin Swaney’s bass, we can understand the reason why Pentagram are considered as one of the heaviest bands ever.
While listening to the songs, we can imagine what Bobby Liebling’s vision was: To create a band, heavier than Sabbath. Featuring songs like “Broken Vows” with the incredible riffing and chorus, the unbelievable 9-minute “Burning Saviour”, one of many versions of “When the screams come” and the nocturnal “Evil Seed”, Pentagram set some standards of how doom metal should sound like. It is true that many doom metal bands recognize Pentagram as their strongest influence. Finally, just for the record, we should mention that the drums of this album were originally recorded by Stuart Rose and in1993 were re-recorded by Hasselvander.
